What is eTEP?
eTEP stands for extended Totally Extra Peritoneal hernia repair. It is a laparoscopic technique that places a large mesh in the layer between the abdominal muscles, without entering the abdominal cavity. This avoids contact with the bowels, reduces post operative pain, and lowers the risk of complications like adhesions or bowel obstruction. eTEP is particularly suited for:
- Large midline ventral hernias
- Recurrent hernias after previous mesh repair
- Hernias in patients who have had multiple prior abdominal surgeries
- Diastasis recti combined with hernia
